  • Community Service - Does your student volunteer in the community? 25 hours of community service are needed in your student's two years at Mitchell Senior to receive special recognition at Awards Night and to get a special cord at graduation. If your student hasn't started working towards those hours yet, it's not too late to get started!  He/She can pick up a form or turn one in to Mrs. Johnson in Room 203.
  • Chocolate Fundraiser - Permission slips went home with students and they are now able to pick up boxes of chocolate bars after school each day from room 116.  Thank you to everyone who participates.  This is one of our biggest ASB fundraisers of the year.
  • Email - Remind your student to check their email on a regular basis.  We share communication with them through their student email that is of interest to them!
  • Tardy Policy - It is the responsibility of students to make sure that they are at school and in class on time. The school policy states that students must be in the room, at a minimum, to be considered present; however, individual teachers may require that students be in their desk, or on their PE number,  in order to be considered present. It is the student’s responsibility to know each of their teacher’s attendance policies. All tardies count against students for any attendance rewards, including perfect attendance. For the purpose of extracurricular activities, the first four (4) tardies of each quarter are warnings and are not counted against the student as far as interventions; however, students will receive consequences for any tardies accumulated beyond the first four (4) tardies (see below).  In an effort to hold students accountable for tardies, on the fifth (5th) tardy students lose all eligibility for participation in extracurricular activities including sports, dances/socials, trips, attending after school events, and any other event that is sponsored by Mitchell Senior.  If a student becomes ineligible based on reaching tardy five (5) or above, the student can make the choice to remove the tardy or tardies above 4 by serving a lunchtime or after school campus beautification. One lunchtime or after school beautification must be served for each tardy above 4 to “erase” the tardy or tardies. The student will remain ineligible until the clean up(s) are completed and the student has moved back to tardy four (4).
  • Tardy Interventions:
    • 1-4 tardies:  Warning
    • 5 and above tardies:  Lunchtime or after school campus beautification to “erase” tardies and become eligible for extracurricular activities.
    • Excessive tardies:  Meeting with School Personnel/Administrator and Parent, Attendance and/or Behavior Contract, and loss of school rewards or extra privileges, possible School Attendance Review Team (SART) and/or School Attendance Review Board (SARB).
    • Tardies are reset at the beginning of each quarter, allowing for a “fresh start.”
  • Chromebooks - Your child will need to have their fully-charged Chromebook every day.  We have very limited loaners on campus.  If your child is having any issues with their Chromebook they can stop by the library and Mrs. Gomez can support him/her.

Dear Thunderbird Families,

The 2023-2024 school year is here and it’s time to #ReadySetLAUNCH!  We continue our partnership with Leader in Me with FLIGHTS (Focus, Leadership, Independence, Goals, Habits, Teams, Synergy) for our 7th grade and LAUNCH (Leadership, Achievement, University, Navigate, Careers, Habits) for our 8th grade as part of our required wheel electives which includes STEAM, ART, and Culinary Arts/Hospitality for ALL students! Mitchell Senior is proud to be a California School To Watch with our strong tradition of excellence in academics and athletics along with our continuous improvement model.  We will be kicking-off the year with Back to School Night on Tuesday, August 15th at 5:30 pm..  Come visit our campus and meet your student’s teachers.

The first day of school is Wednesday, August 16th.  Students may enter campus beginning at 7:30 AM.  Breakfast is available every morning from 7:30-7:50 AM.  The first bell rings at 7:55 AM.  School starts at 8:00 AM.  Dismissal is at 2:52 PM.  Our bell schedule and school map is being mailed home.  Please note that all Wednesdays are early release days at 1:37 PM.

Here are some important information items you need to be aware of:

  1. 8th grade WEB Leaders are hosting a 7th grade Orientation Day on Wednesday, August 9th from 8 AM to Noon.  Information was sent out last week to all of the 7th grade students and families.

  2. Students’ first day of school will be a “roundup” experience, complete with a school tour, expectations, and lots of introductions!

  3. First Day packets will be sent home on the first day of school.  Documents on colored paper require a parent/guardian signature and must be returned to school by Wednesday, August 23rd.

  4. Our Back to School Night is Tuesday, August 15th.  Classrooms are open from 5:30-6:30 PM.  This is a meet and greet evening!

  5. Please make sure you are receiving Parent Square communication (installing the app on your phone gives you more options) and that your contact information (phone number, email address, mailing address, etc.) are up-to-date with our school office.  Our website will also stay up-to-date with the most current information:  www.mitchellsenior.school.  Our student handbook, the FLIGHTS Manual can be found on our website and is also attached to the post.

  6. The District is excited to announce that in all AESD 5th - 8th grade classrooms we will be using a system called Yondr to improve student focus and the teaching and learning experience. The Yondr system assists the District in strengthening our existing student cell phone use policy, which specifies that student phones are to be turned off and put away during school hours to help ensure an academically focused environment. Each Mitchell Senior student will be issued a Yondr pouch on the first day of school.  More information from our Superintendent will be included in the mailing this week.

  7. School pictures will be Monday, August 21st.  Students will receive their ID cards that day.  Picture packet information will go home in their first day packets.

  8. Your child will need to have their fully-charged Chromebook beginning the first day of school.

  9. Your student’s class schedule will be included in the mailing this week.  Please note, no changes will be made unless there is an error. If your student does not receive the schedule in the mail, he/she can pick it up on Back to School Night, August 15th.

  10. AERIES parent portal instructions are included in this mailing.  Please set up your access to this important information (attendance, grades, class schedule) and check it often.  Students will set up their AERIES portal access in their math classes.

  11. Prior to participating in any sport, student athletes must be cleared.  The mandatory medical clearance packet is good for the entire school year and must be completed each year.  Medical clearance packets can be picked up at the main office or printed from our school website. The completed packet must be turned in to the office at Mitchell Senior prior to the first day of tryouts for your sport.

For questions or if you need additional information, please contact our school office:  (209) 357-6124.

Looking forward to a great year!

Thank you,

Diana Dietz

Mitchell Senior Principal
